Christiana Care Health System was ranked among the World’s Best Hospitals by Newsweek, one of the nation’s most widely read news magazines.

Newsweek recognized Christiana Care as being on the “forefront of adapting” to changes sweeping the health care industry “while providing top-notch patient care.”

The award recognizes the best 1,000 hospitals across 11 countries: the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Germany, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Australia.

“At Christiana Care, we serve together to provide the very best care and an exceptional experience to our community,” said Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, Christiana Care president and CEO.

“This recognition by Newsweek is a testament to the dedication of our extraordinary caregivers, who deliver outstanding care every day, guided by our values, excellence and love,” she said.

“The recognition also affirms that our continued investment in our caregivers, technology and innovation is making a difference in the health of the people we serve.”

The rankings were determined based on recommendations from tens of thousands of doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals. In addition, the rankings factored in patient survey results and medical performance indicators.

Newsweek partnered with Statista Inc., a global market research and consumer data company, to develop the ranking of the world’s best hospitals.

The recognition by Newsweek comes on the heels of several other quality recognitions for Christiana Care:

  • Healthgrades awarded Christiana Care its America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care.
  • U.S. News & World Report named Christiana Care as the best hospital in Delaware and No. 3 among the 90-plus hospitals in the Philadelphia region in 2018.
  • Christiana Care was one of only 29 hospitals in the United States to achieve the highest ratings in every common condition or procedure in the 2018 U.S. News & World Report rankings. This is the third consecutive year that Christiana Care has earned that distinction — a record that only 14 hospitals in the country have achieved.
  • The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program recognized Christiana Care for surgical excellence in caring for its sickest patients and named it one of 66 hospitals in the top 10 percent of outcomes after surgery.
