Dr. Allen Friedland recognized for leadership at national level
Medicine-Pediatrics Program Directors Association honors clinical excellence and advancement of the field
Allen Friedland, M.D., FACP, FAAP, received the 2019 Medicine-Pediatrics Program Directors Association (MPPDA) Leadership in Med-Peds Award at its annual spring meeting in New Orleans.
This award recognizes clinical excellence, national leadership, contributions to education and training, faculty development support and other extraordinary contributions to the field.
Dr. Friedland is a past president of MPPDA (2004-2005) and has chaired the national recruitment committee since 2003. He is past chair of the American Academy of Physicians section on Medicine-Pediatrics (2012-2016) and has been the longest-term advisor (since 2005) for the National Medicine-Pediatrics Residents Association.
At the national level, he developed the speakers kit that hundreds of students and faculty download with up-to-date information about the specialty and worked on the combined newsletter for med-peds to speak with “one voice.”
Dr. Friedland is section chief of Medicine-Pediatrics at Christiana Care and director of its Medicine-Pediatrics Residency Program. He is a professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.
In March, he received the Laureate Award, the highest recognition from the Delaware Chapter of the American College of Physicians. He was recognized as a 2018 Top Doctor by Delaware Today magazine in three distinct categories — Internal Medicine, Adolescent Medicine and Pediatrics.
