Over the Moon! Baby Shower Celebrates Cecil County Families

ChristianaCare’s Union Hospital let new and expectant moms know we love them to the moon and back at a Community Baby Shower this month.

Against a backdrop of twinkling stars and moons, 50 families enjoyed delicious refreshments and learned about community resources available to growing families.

Representatives from the Cecil County Public Library, the Maryland Department of Human Services, free early learning programs and more were on site to talk with parents about what to expect as their children grow. “I was trying to think of things to do during maternity leave and kind of get out of the house,” said mom-to-be Christy Lewis. “It’s going to be cold in February and March, and you don’t want to have to go walk around a park in the freezing cold. You can go do newborn playtime in our elementary schools — that sounds really awesome.”

Families toured the Family Birth Center at Union Hospital and met ChristianaCare caregivers who care for them at delivery and beyond.

Families also went home with baby toys, diapers, wipes and handmade blankets and hats donated to ChristianaCare.

Lewis, pictured above, had heard about the event from social media and friends who work at Union Hospital. “It was super, super nice and so unexpected,” she said. “We’re going home with all this great stuff and information that we didn’t have before. The boxes full of diapers — that’s huge. And a car seat! That’s incredible.”
