Vanessa Vecore Honored With DAISY Award
Nurse recognized for 'compassionate' support of the entire family

Vanessa Vecore, RN, of Christiana Hospital, has received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Vecore, who recently completed her Labor and Delivery residency in nursing, was nominated by Tonya Corbitt, after her son and his girlfriend experienced a difficult delivery.
“Vanessa has to be the sweetest, most down-to-earth and compassionate nurse I have ever met in my life,” Corbitt wrote in her nomination. “She was very empathetic to the pain and suffering we were going through.”
Vecore explained everything that was happening during the delivery step by step, Corbitt wrote, and stayed by the couple’s side through the entire experience.
“As the grandmother, I’m glad she was there because she helped me also,” Corbitt wrote. “We couldn’t have done this without her dedication, love and support.”
Corbitt wrote that Vecore’s “wonderful” ability as a nurse should be recognized: “She is a very professional and takes pride in what she does.”
Vecore, a ChristianaCare employee for almost a year, is studying for her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Delaware Technical Community College.
“I feel so honored and blessed to be a part of such an incredible organization,” she said. “I look forward to learning and growing more in my practice.”
