For the past two years, Nursing Unit 4A’s Theresa Scarfo, RN, winner of the February 2011 Jefferson Award, has devoted many volunteer hours to Kay’s Kamp, a summer program especially for children ages 5-17 who have cancer, either active or in remission.

Kay’s Kamp was founded in memory Kaylyn Warren, a young woman who was diagnosed with leukemia at age 17 and did not survive the disease. The purpose of the camp is to give kids an opportunity to participate in a unique camping experience promoting fun and normalcy.

Scarfo also serves Kay’s Camp as assistant medical director, sits on the advisory board and helps with fundraising. She is an active volunteer basketball coach with the Catholic Youth Ministry, the YMCA and the Police Athletic League.
