Erin Kavanaugh Receives 2022 Program Director Recognition Award

Erin Kavanaugh, M.D., FAAFP, has received the 2022 Program Director Recognition Award from the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD).

Dr. Kavanaugh received the silver award, recognizing six years of dedication to excellence in education. The award honors the achievements of program directors and recognizes their ongoing commitment to education, program expansion, faculty development and promotion, resident and faculty wellbeing, as well as advocacy and scholarship. Dr. Kavanaugh is a prior recipient of the bronze level award.

She is a practicing family physician, Delaware native and Delaware Institute of Medical Education and Research (DIMER) program graduate. She sees patients at the Wilmington Health Care Center at Wilmington Hospital.

Dr. Kavanaugh has been vice chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine since 2019 and also is currently serving as interim chair. In addition, she serves as the residency program director for family medicine and co-program director for emergency medicine/family medicine.

Dr. Kavanaugh is a clinical associate professor of family and community medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, past president of the Delaware Academy of Family Physicians and actively serves as treasurer of the board.

She completed her medical education at the Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 2007, and residency at ChristianaCare’s family medicine residency program in 2010, where she served as chief resident. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Pennsylvania State University in 2003.
