Valerie Cohen Named Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine Residency Program Director
Dr. Cohen responsible for the oversight of EM/FM graduate medical education
Valerie Cohen, D.O., has been named director of the ChristianaCare Emergency Medicine/Family Medicine residency program.
In this role, Dr. Cohen will be responsible for the oversight of emergency medicine/family medicine graduate medical education in the departments of Family and Community Medicine and Emergency Medicine. She will maintain her clinical work within the emergency medicine service line as well as precepting at the family medicine centers.
Dr. Cohen’s commitment to clinical and organizational excellence and advocacy for the resident experience is exceptional. She brings an extensive history of contributions to academic chapters and publications to her new role. Dr. Cohen has been honored by the residency program multiple times with faculty member of the year awards and other teaching accolades.
Dr. Cohen graduated from James Madison University and earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency in emergency medicine/family medicine at ChristianaCare in 2016.
She then joined Doctors for Emergency Medicine in a full-time clinical role. She began working with the emergency medicine/family medicine residency in a clinical capacity in 2016 and was named associate program director in 2017.
In her academic role, she reports to Erin Kavanaugh, M.D., FAAFP, chair of Family and Community Medicine, and John Powell, M.D., MHCDS, chair of Emergency Medicine.
