ChristianaCare has received a $15,000 gift from W. L. Gore & Associates in support of its Behavioral Health Unit at Union Hospital, continuing a philanthropic partnership that spans more than four decades and over $350,000 in total giving. The gift will help expand access to mental health services for individuals and families throughout Cecil County.
“Philanthropy is essential to ChristianaCare’s mission of service to our community, and we are deeply grateful to Gore for their enduring partnership and generous support of our Cecil County campus,” said Dia Williams Adams, MPA, vice president of Philanthropy at ChristianaCare. “Their most recent gift to our Behavioral Health Unit at Union Hospital reflects a long-standing commitment to the well-being of our neighbors in Cecil County and a shared belief in the importance of compassionate, high-quality care for every person we serve.”
Founded in 1958 and headquartered in Newark, Delaware, Gore is a global materials science company known for innovations like GORE-TEX® fabrics and implantable medical devices. With nearly 3,000 employees working at its Cecil County facilities, Gore is the county’s largest private-sector employer and a deeply rooted community partner.
Gore’s philanthropic support of Union Hospital began in 1982 and has helped fund a wide range of health care initiatives. The company’s latest investment supports a planned renovation of the ChristianaCare Behavioral Health Unit at Union Hospital, which offers a continuum of care including outpatient therapy, psychiatric evaluations, medication management and a 12-bed inpatient unit for individuals needing more intensive support. The program is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, social workers and licensed therapists.

“We are grateful to Gore for their continued, generous support of Union Hospital — a vital resource serving our neighbors throughout Cecil County,” said Joan Pirrung, MSN, APRN, ACNS-BC, interim president of ChristianaCare, Cecil County campus. “Their partnership helps us expand access to behavioral health services, improve health outcomes, and provide a safe, healing environment where people can begin their recovery with dignity and support.”
“We’re honored to support the vital work happening every day at ChristianaCare’s Union Hospital,” said Michael Ratchford, government relations associate and champion of Gore’s community partnership program. “It’s especially meaningful to us because so many of our associates live in Cecil County and rely on Union Hospital to care for themselves and their families. We take tremendous pride in being active members of the community in which we live and work.”
Gore’s commitment to Cecil County extends beyond philanthropy. The company encourages Associates to volunteer with local nonprofit organizations and has contributed more than 18,000 hours of paid volunteer time in the past three years to causes including the Union Hospital Foundation.
