104 Residents and Fellows Begin Journey at ChristianaCare Long Coat Ceremony

Annual ceremony gives new caregivers a fresh coat

ChristianaCare welcomed 104 new residents and fellows into 35 residency and fellowship programs during its annual Long Coat Ceremony on June 20, a rite of passage that marks their transition from students to medical professionals.

The ceremony celebrates a pivotal moment for these physicians-in-training as they sport their long white coats for the first time. More than just a garment, the coat symbolizes their commitment to serving with love and excellence at ChristianaCare.

“Each year, our new incoming residents and fellows come from across the country to join our highly competitive post-graduate programs bringing a range of backgrounds, experiences and aspirations to ChristianaCare and the communities we serve,” said Brian Levine, M.D., associate chief academic officer and designated institutional official.

With more than 100 years of experience in post-graduate medical education, ChristianaCare offers an unmatched learning environment that combines nationally recognized innovation, mentorship and community-centered care.

Residents and fellows gain experience at ChristianaCare’s acute care hospitals and free-standing emergency department and in a variety of outpatient facilities throughout Delaware and the surrounding region. They learn from esteemed faculty across 35 programs, accelerating their growth as expert, compassionate clinicians dedicated to making a difference.
