Dreama Szutenbach Honored With DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Dreama Szutenbach, LPN, of ChristianaCare HomeHealth, has received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

A patient nominated Szutenbach, a private duty HomeHealth nurse, sharing a heartfelt story of her exceptional care over 11 years. The patient, who has multiple complex health conditions, commended Szutenbach for consistently going above and beyond her job duties, always serving with love and excellence.  

Szutenbach provided unwavering support during the patient’s tracheostomy removal process. From start to finish, she offered encouragement and was available by phone when the patient felt anxious in the hospital. After discharge, Szutenbach accompanied the patient to all follow-up appointments, ensuring their requests were considered in medical decisions and supporting their choices.

“Dreama’s unwavering dedication and exceptional care have profoundly impacted my health and well-being, touching my heart in an indelible way,” the patient wrote. “Her commitment goes far beyond duty, embodying the true spirit of nursing with every act of kindness and support.” 

This dedication was particularly evident during the patient’s move into a new apartment, meticulously packing, unpacking and organizing, making sure everything was accessible and easy for the patient to reach.  

“Thanks to her help and dedication, my apartment was fully set up in less than a week,” the patient wrote. “Dreama is not just a nurse: She is a beacon of hope who has illuminated my life’s journey through her extraordinary service.”

The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous selection process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
