Hyang Suk Kim Honored With DAISY Award
Nurse in HomeHealth honored for 'loving care' of pediatric patient
Hyang Suk Kim, RN, of ChristianaCare HomeHealth, has received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Kim was nominated by a Delaware mother who has seen the improvements in her young daughter as a result of her care.
The little girl was born premature and weighed under 2 pounds. She required a feeding tube to eat and a tracheostomy to assist with her breathing. She spent most of her first two years of life in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units.
When it was time to bring the baby home, her family worried about the specialized care she would need.
“Then along came Nurse Suk. She is a very special lady. She gives loving care while also maintaining her professional ability to administer the care that my daughter needs on a daily basis,” the mother wrote in her nomination.
Kim has played a vital role in the little girl’s ongoing care. She encouraged her as she learned to walk and adjust to the removal of her tracheostomy and feeding tube.
“My daughter adores her and so does the rest of the family,” the nominator wrote. “We are grateful and blessed that Suk came into our lives to help our daughter be the best person she can be.”
