Marcin Jankowski Appointed Vice Chair, Department of Surgery
He will lead surgical quality, patient safety and performance improvement
Marcin Jankowski, D.O., MBA, FACS, CPHQ, has been named vice chair for surgical quality, patient safety and performance improvement for the Department of Surgery. Jankowski has served as the medical director for surgical outcomes and research since November 2019, providing leadership, oversight and guidance to numerous quality and patient safety initiatives in the department and systemwide.
In his new role, Jankowski will partner with institutional leadership, the department chair, campus chiefs, as well as surgical service line leaders, in identifying areas for improvement across surgical scope of influence. He will oversee the discovery of root causes for specific patient care trends, training and educating departmental staff to promote good quality practices while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
Jankowski will continue to lead the work in creating policies and procedures that ensure good quality surgical care, while working to reduce harm to the surgical patient. He will continue in his clinical role as a trauma surgeon and surgical critical care intensivist.
Jankowski graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in 2005, completed his surgical residency at PCOM and a fellowship in surgical critical care at ChristianaCare in 2011. He earned his executive health care MBA from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 2018 and became a certified professional in health care quality in 2020. He also holds bachelor’s degrees from Pennsylvania State University and Arcadia University.
Jankowski has taken on numerous leadership roles in his career, including trauma medical director at Crozer Chester Medical Center and Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, an associate clinical professor at PCOM and a longstanding member of the American Association for Physician Leaders.
Jankowski reports to the chair of the Department of Surgery.
