Taylor Murphy honored with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Taylor Murphy, BSN, RN, CCRN, of ChristianaCare’s Cardiovascular Critical Care Complex, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses in March 2020.

ChristianaCare DAISY Award recipients are nurses recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying exceptional clinical skills, compassion, respect and partnership.

The DAISY nomination came from the daughter of a patient who described how Taylor Murphy helped her dad and their family through a quadruple bypass surgery and recovery.

When Murphy spoke with her family after the surgery, everyone immediately felt at ease, she wrote in her nomination. Murphy was compassionate and understanding, answered all their questions and continued to update them on his progress. “Taylor’s care, skills and confidence brought us great comfort,” the nomination said.

Murphy knew everything that had transpired during the surgery and provided the perfect mix of support and encouragement when interacting with her father, his daughter wrote.

“I think my favorite moment between them was one night when she was going off shift. After briefing the night nurse, Taylor came back into his room to say ‘bye’ for the night. When my dad reached over to squeeze her hand, she said, ‘Have no fear, I’ll be back to see you in 12 short hours!’ That was the first true smile I had seen on his face in days.

“To us, Taylor is a rock star, superhero and angel all rolled into one pretty amazing human being! We are beyond blessed to have crossed paths with her and will be eternally grateful. Thank you again for everything, Taylor!”

The international DAISY Award program honors skillful and compassionate nursing care. The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous selection process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
