Using data to improve the patient experience

Patient experience can be improved using the same kinds of data-driven processes that are already used to improve better-known clinical measures, such as 30-day survival rates and door-to-balloon time, says Samir I. Thaker, M.D, a preliminary medicine resident at Christiana Care.

At a recent medical grand rounds at Christiana Care, Dr. Thaker presented research to an audience of physicians, nurses and hospital staff demonstrating that there are good reasons why doctors must pay serious attention to patients’ experience and work to improve it. Dr. Thaker partnered with maternity nurses and staff at Christiana Care on the project, which showed promising results in just a few months.
