Christiana Hospital Named by Newsweek as One of the Nation’s Best for Maternity Care

Delaware's only honoree offers the full range of OB-GYN subspecialty services, from high-risk obstetrics to postpartum mental health support

Christiana Hospital has been named one of the nation’s best hospitals for maternity care by Newsweek, earning recognition as the only hospital in Delaware to receive the honor and marking the third time it has achieved this distinction for excellence in care for mothers and newborns.

“It is truly an honor to receive this recognition,” said Kaveeta Vinaya Kumar, M.D., MBA, FACOG, chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at ChristianaCare. “At Christiana Hospital, our values are reflected in the compassion and dedication of our caregivers and in the trust mothers place in us during one of life’s most meaningful moments.

“This honor affirms our continued commitment to supporting families with exceptional care before, during, and after birth — and our responsibility to continue advancing maternity care for the families and communities we are honored to serve.”

America’s Best Maternity Hospitals 2026, presented by Newsweek and Statista, recognizes hospitals nationwide for strong clinical outcomes, supportive patient experiences and innovative approaches to maternal and newborn care. The ranking is based on a combination of hospital quality measures, publicly reported patient experience data and peer recommendations from health care professionals specializing in maternity and newborn care.

As the only health system in Delaware to offer the full range of OB-GYN subspecialty services, ChristianaCare earned recognition for its advanced maternity services at Christiana Hospital, including high-risk obstetric care, neonatal intensive care and family-centered models of care. These services are anchored by the Center for Women’s & Children’s Health, which features a state-of-the-art NICU with private rooms designed to support families throughout their care journey and promote long-term maternal and infant wellness.

ChristianaCare’s maternity program is supported by a multidisciplinary team of more than 60 OB-GYN and maternal-fetal medicine physicians, 30 advanced practice clinicians, and more than 300 caregivers across labor, delivery and postpartum care, delivering care for more than 6,300 births annually.

ChristianaCare also supports families beyond the hospital through programs such as Healthy Beginnings and its community health worker initiative. In 2025, the system expanded that support by launching NeuroFlow, a digital tool that helps address postpartum mental health needs, enrolling more than 1,000 patients in its first six months.
