ChristianaCare Junior Board Gifts $1M to Expand Middletown Campus

Generous donation will advance high-quality care and innovative technologies

Continuing its long-standing tradition of philanthropy, the Junior Board of ChristianaCare has committed a $1 million gift to support the expansion of ChristianaCare’s Middletown campus, advancing access to innovative, high-quality care for Delaware’s growing Middletown community. The gift was recognized on April 21 as the final steel beam was signed by members of the Junior Board and ChristianaCare leaders and caregivers before being lifted into place.

Members of the Junior Board, ChristianaCare leaders and caregivers signed the final steel beam before it was lifted into place at the Middletown campus.

The gift will support innovative technologies at the ChristianaCare Health Center at Middletown, including digital tools to enhance patient experience, health education and care team coordination.

“The ChristianaCare Health Center at Middletown represents more than a new facility — it reflects our promise to the Middletown community,” said Pauline Corso, president of Ambulatory Network Continuity and Growth at ChristianaCare.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Junior Board, we can continue building care that is accessible, compassionate and designed for the future — right here in Middletown.”

ChristianaCare caregivers continue to lead the way in helping our Delaware neighbors achieve their best health.

Funding from the Junior Board will support interactive, TV-based patient digital whiteboards that empower patients to take an active role in their care. These tools provide personalized health information, education and care plans for patients while also enabling virtual connections with loved ones and members of their care teams, supporting better outcomes and a more connected care experience.

Through digital whiteboards, patients can:

  • Actively participate in their care by learning about their condition and recovery, reviewing test results and engaging with their personalized care plan.
  • Learn how to connect with services and resources, including education about their health and resources available in the community.
  • Connect virtually with loved ones and members of the care team through secure video calls displayed on the in-room TV.
  • Meet with a virtual access caregiver to schedule follow-up appointments before discharge, helping improve continuity of care and patient outcomes.

“The Junior Board of ChristianaCare, Inc., is proud to support the Middletown expansion,” said Diane Thomas and Claudine Richardson, co‑presidents of the Junior Board of ChristianaCare, Inc.

“The Junior Board continues to lead the way in helping our Delaware neighbors achieve their best health at ChristianaCare.”

Middletown is one of the fastest-growing communities in Delaware, and ChristianaCare has broken ground on the multi-phase Middletown campus to meet the region’s growing health care needs. Opening in 2027, the expansion is part of ChristianaCare’s mission-driven growth strategy to bring high-quality, convenient care closer to where people live and work throughout Delaware.

Once complete, the health center will bring a wide range of services together in one convenient location, including primary and specialty care, women’s health, behavioral health, oncology, cardiovascular care, pediatrics, neurology, imaging, diagnostics and lab testing for residents of southern New Castle County and northern Kent County.

The Junior Board of ChristianaCare, Inc., has been a steadfast supporter of ChristianaCare for generations, generously donating millions of dollars to help advance patient care, education and innovation. Over the course of its history, the Junior Board has contributed more than $14 million in support of ChristianaCare’s mission to improve the health of the communities it serves.
