Rennae Hernandez Honored With DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Taking time in the Union Hospital emergency room to listen and empower patients

Rennae Hernandez, BSN, RN, of the Union Hospital Emergency Department, has been recognized with the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
ChristianaCare DAISY Award recipients are nurses recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying exceptional clinical skills, compassion, respect and partnership.
Hernandez’s nominator, a patient in the emergency room, arrived distressed and afraid as she contemplated treatment options for her migraine. She was grateful that Hernandez was assigned as her nurse during this time of need.

“Rennae held my hand and offered support and encouragement,” her nominator wrote. “I hope she knows how much her words meant to me.”
Hernandez took time to personally reassure and connect with her patient.
“She found a moment for just the two of us in the room to tell me she understood my hesitation and fear and respected my [treatment] decision,” her nominator wrote. “She made me feel understood, respected and empowered to make my own decision. Thank you!”
