Brianna Langshaw Honored With DAISY Leader Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Nurse manager of the Wilmington Emergency Department recognized for ‘remarkable’ leadership

Brianna Langshaw, MSN, RN, CEN, TCRN, NE-BC, NPD-BC, nurse manager of the Wilmington Emergency Department (ED), has been recognized with the DAISY Leader Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

“Receiving the DAISY Leader Award is truly an honor, and honestly, it feels a little surreal,” Langshaw said. “This recognition is a reflection of the incredible team I get to work with every day. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to patient care inspire me constantly.”

The Wilmington ED is a vital part of the hospital, often serving as the first line of care during critical moments. Langshaw’s leadership within this department has improved clinical outcomes and fostered a supportive, collaborative atmosphere among staff, said Jamie Ayala, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, RN-BC, chief nursing officer for Wilmington Hospital.

“Brianna is a remarkable nurse leader whose commitment to patient care and supporting her team exemplifies the core values of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award,” Ayala said.

Langshaw has been in a leadership role for several years, progressing from bedside nurse to nursing professional development specialist, assistant nurse manager and now nurse manager.

“Her knowledge, compassion, innovation, personable nature and flexibility are something to aspire to,” said Natalie Galinskie, MSN, RN, CED, who nominated Langshaw for the award.

Galinskie, assistant nurse manager of the Wilmington ED, also highlighted Langshaw’s efforts in supporting work-life balance for her team, encouraging educational opportunities, and championing various initiatives, including the department’s blood drive and participation in the Special Olympics of Delaware.

“She facilitates ED Nurses Week, celebrates staff birthdays, and listens to families when there are grievances,” Galinskie said. “She truly goes above and beyond.”

Langshaw began her career with the Wilmington ED as a student nurse extern in 2012 and has been a dedicated member of the department since 2015. She earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Delaware and her master’s degree in nursing at Wilmington University, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate in nursing practice.

The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
