Barbara Dommel Honored With ROSE Award

Barbara Dommel, a patient care technician in the Joint Replacement Center at Wilmington Hospital, has received the ChristianaCare ROSE Award. ROSE stands for Raising Our Standard of Excellence, recognizing outstanding partners in nursing who help deliver compassionate, excellent care to patients and families.

Dommel was nominated by a patient in her care after a knee replacement surgery. Her nominator believes that Dommel’s “professionalism, kindness, compassion and humor made a significant difference” in her stay.

“She answered all my questions, offered me words of encouragement and continuously put a smile on my face when she came into my room to check my vitals,” the nominator wrote.

“It is because of techs like Barb that hospitals are made more welcoming and that patients feel more relaxed during what is typically a very stressful time.

“I am so very grateful to her for providing me with exceptional care.”

The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects ROSE Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and ChristianaCare caregivers. Nursing partners in caregiving — behavioral health specialists, clerks, home health aides, homemakers, medical assistants, monitor technicians, office assistants, patient care technicians, perioperative care technicians, procedural area technologists and surgical technologists — are eligible.
