A patient’s mother nominated Schaffer for her exceptional patient- and family-centered care. The nominator was working when she received a call that her son was in an accident.
“When I arrived at his bedside, he was unrecognizable, and Michelle did the most extraordinary thing — she made me a part of his care team,” the nominator wrote. “She immediately updated me and then let me do small things to assist her. While we waited for an ultrasound and a CT scan, she held my hand and made me feel less alone.
“That one act brought hope where there wasn’t any. She went above and beyond to ensure he received the best care possible, and for that, I am truly grateful.”
