Scott Shoop, Pharm.D., Honored With Louis P. Jeffrey Award for Pharmacy Educators
First-year residency lead recognized for distinguished service
Clinical Pharmacy Specialist Scott Shoop, Pharm.D., DPLA, BCPS, BCGP, received the 2024 Louis P. Jeffrey Award for distinguished service to the profession and commitment to residency training at the Eastern States Conference for Pharmacy Residents and Preceptors in May.
Shoop, a clinical pharmacy specialist in Internal Medicine/Geriatrics, has directed ChristianaCare’s postgraduate year one Pharmacy Residency program for 16 years. As program director, he oversees the first year residents in ChristianaCare’s nationally respected pharmacy residency.
“Scott exemplifies ChristianaCare’s values of love and excellence daily and naturally,” said Carolyn Orendorff, Pharm.D., MHA, director, Clinical Pharmacy Services at ChristianaCare.
“He provides feedback in a respectful and constructive manner to help others succeed,” she said, “and in turn he routinely solicits feedback from preceptors and residents to help ensure the program is the best it can be.”
In the Pharmacy Residency program, residents learn to participate as active members of a multidisciplinary patient care team helping to provide clinical pharmacy services in acute and ambulatory care settings.
Under Shoop’s leadership, the program gives year-one Pharmacy residents the ability to pursue their career goals in a patient-centered environment with opportunities to work with expert mentors and conduct academic research.
“It is a privilege to help develop the next generation of pharmacists,” Shoop said. “We prepare them for clinical careers, subspecialty residents opportunities with a strong academic approach combined with hands-on learning to build skills and foster confidence.”
The Louis P. Jeffrey Award was created 20 years ago in memory of the founder of the Eastern States Conference.
The award acknowledges the “genuine enthusiasm Scott shows at every encounter, which has a positive effect on those around him,” Orendorff said. “He is a knowledgeable and dedicated clinician who models best practices for patient care.”
