Two patients nominated Porter for kindness and compassion during their hospital stays.

“Eva went above and beyond for make me feel comfortable,” one nominator wrote. After a difficult surgery, she “sat by my side and gave support as if she was a family member.”

Another patient wrote that Porter provided comfort with clean rooms and a shoulder to lean on.

“I have never seen someone work as hard as Eva did to make sure all of the rooms were cleaned up,” the nominator wrote. At the same time, as the patient was awaiting surgery, “I was extremely fearful, visibly upset and crying. Eva heard me and came into my room to talk to me and calm me down.”

She was grateful to Porter for the “wonderful care” during her stay.

The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects ROSE Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and ChristianaCare caregivers. Nursing partners in caregiving — behavioral health specialists, clerks, home health aides, homemakers, medical assistants, monitor technicians, office assistants, patient care technicians, perioperative care technicians, procedural area technologists and surgical technologists — are eligible.
