Candice Darby Honored With ROSE Award
'Warm smile' and 'kind words' make all the difference for a family
Candice Darby, Guest Services representative at ChristianaCare’s Wilmington Hospital, received the ChristianaCare ROSE Award. ROSE stands for Raising Our Standard of Excellence, recognizing outstanding partners in nursing who help deliver compassionate, excellent care to patients and families.
“Candice was amazingly kind and caring when we first arrived,” a patient’s family member wrote in their nomination. “She went out of her way to make sure that my mom and I felt welcome and at ease as we waited for more information about my father, who was just admitted.”
The family member went on to write that Darby “assuaged our fears,” and that her “warm smile” and “kind words” made her an ideal person to be interacting with the public on behalf of ChristianaCare.
“When I returned to the desk later in the day to ask a question,” the family member wrote, “Candice remembered who I was and inquired compassionately about how my father was doing.”
The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects ROSE Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. Nursing partners in caregiving — behavioral health specialists, clerks, home health aides, homemakers, medical assistants, monitor technicians, office assistants, patient care technicians, perioperative care technicians, procedural area technologists, and surgical technologists — are eligible.
