Lindsey Gaspar Honored With DAISY Award
Recognizing ‘a special gem of a nurse’
Lindsey Gaspar, BSN, RN, of Medical-Surgical Unit 5B at Christiana Hospital, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for July.
The patient who nominated Gaspar was hospitalized for paresthesia, which can include abnormal sensations such as prickling and tingling.
“All of the nurses were great, but Lindsey mastered being both caregiver and consultant,” the patient wrote in her nomination.
“She would inform without ever overstepping, and she would give insight without ever imposing her opinions or improperly influencing. It made me feel like I had a friend and trusted resource there.”
Gaspar helped the patient understand and prepare for a lumbar puncture – “she knew I liked to do my homework” – and held her hand during the procedure.
“Her communication skills are amazing,” the patient wrote. “She has an amazing aptitude of both kindness and candor that garners trust and allows the patient to keep her dignity and to feel safe.
“She knew how important it was for me not to feel like a helpless patient, and she never treated me like one.
“She is the best of the best. Please know what a special gem of a nurse you have there in Lindsey.”
