One of only 240 hospitals nationwide to receive the award this year, the recognition underscores ChristianaCare’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for patients being treated for a heart attack.

The honor signifies that ChristianaCare has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to the highest standards of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.

Saving lives with the highest quality care

ChristianaCare also received three awards from the American Heart Association – the Mission: Lifeline STEMI Receiving Center GOLD PLUS award, the Mission: Lifeline NSTEMI GOLD award, and the Heart Failure GOLD PLUS with Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award.

ChristianaCare’s renowned Center for Heart & Vascular Health on the Newark campus consistently earns outstanding distinctions for the highest levels of cardiovascular care.

Hospitals receive these awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

In February 2022, the Center for Heart & Vascular Health earned the highest quality rating—three stars—from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedures.

“These awards shine a light on our continuing effort to provide superb heart and vascular services to our community, meeting the highest standards of excellence,” Garratt said.

“Congratulations to our entire team and all who collaborate seamlessly to deliver care 24/7. As a result, Delawareans receive the highest quality cardiovascular care right here in Delaware.”
