Tori Mathias Honored With DAISY Award
Tori Mathias, BSN, RN, of ChristianaCare’s Cardiovascular Critical Care Complex, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for November 2021.
Mathias earned thanks and the DAISY nomination from a patient who met her on the Heart Failure Unit at Christiana Hospital.
“Ms. Mathias was skilled in her care and had a very warm and helpful demeanor,” the patient wrote in his nomination.
She inspired him to make effective use of his time on the unit, learn more about his condition and engage in follow-up care.
“Although I have had heart issues for a long time, she encouraged me to reassess how I was handling them and made certain I knew what I needed to do when discharged.
“She also made it a point to check up on me at the beginning and end of each shift, in addition to her routine care. She is a bright, capable, skilled, young woman with a wonderfully caring way about her, and a great personality.
“Ms. Mathias made my stay both pleasant and curative, at a time when I was very much at a physical and emotional low point. I am indebted to her for her excellent care.”
Crediting Mathias, he happily reported a “very good” follow-up appointment at ChristianaCare’s Center for Heart & Vascular Health.
The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
