Pam McKoy Honored With ROSE Award
Caregiver recognized for Raising Our Standards of Excellence
Pam McKoy, procedural area technician at Union Hospital, received the ChristianaCare ROSE Award for December 2021. ROSE is the Raising Our Standard of Excellence Award, recognizing outstanding partners in nursing who help deliver compassionate, exceptional care to patients and families.
The ROSE nomination from a nurse colleague recognizes McKoy for consistently exceeding expectations in her support to surgical staff, physicians and patients.
In her role, McKoy preps and sets up operating rooms with specific equipment to promote on-time surgical starts. Then, “throughout the day, Pam is a phone call away to help with room turnovers, specimen delivery, bed retrieval, anesthesia assistance and so much more,” her nominator wrote.
In emergency situations, McKoy is “phenomenal,” remaining “level-headed” and attentive to staff members’ needs, performing “flawlessly” in high-pressure moments.
“I am forever thankful to have the honor of working beside Pam every day.”Beyond her professional contributions, McKoy “is a beam of sunshine when she walks into the room,” wrote her nominator.
She raises spirits by decorating colleagues’ lockers with small tokens of appreciation and motivational quotes and has never missed a teammate’s birthday.
The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects ROSE Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. Nursing partners in caregiving — behavioral health specialists, clerks, home health aides, homemakers, medical assistants, monitor technicians, office assistants, patient care technicians, perioperative care technicians, procedural area technologists, and surgical technologists – are eligible.
