Angel Johnson Honored With DAISY Award
Angel Johnson, BSN, RN, SCRN, of Christiana Hospital’s Neuro Critical Care Unit and Seasons Hospice Inpatient Unit, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for September 2021.
Johnson earned gratitude and a DAISY nomination for her compassion and kindness while caring for a patient and helping a daughter through the last night of her mother’s life.
“Angel made sure I was comfortable, in a reclining chair with a pillow and blankets, so I could hold my mom’s hand,” wrote the daughter in her nomination.
She shared that Johnson quietly checked on them, gave her updates every few hours and gently woke her when her mother’s heart stopped beating.
“She was kind and considerate and gave my mom and me the space to say goodbye throughout the night,” the nominator wrote. “Thank you — you truly are an angel.”
The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
