Allen D. Smith Named Vice President, Patient Care Services, Heart & Vascular Services

Allen D. Smith, MSN, MSM, RN, CCNS-BC, has joined ChristianaCare as vice president, Patient Care Services, Heart & Vascular Services. In this role, he provides overall organizational leadership for clinical operations, performance improvement and financial performance for the 2E, 4E, 5E patient care units along with HVIS, Vascular Access Team, and Ambulatory Infusion Centers for both Newark and the Wilmington campuses.
Smith most recently served as a chief nursing officer in a hospital/ambulatory clinic setting serving the Native American population at Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota. He was responsible for all clinical program areas including inpatient, ambulatory, public health and emergency units. Previously, Smith served in the Army branch of the United States Armed Forces. His career launched with clinical positions in critical care and emergency services. He held a number of nurse leader positions, with increasing responsibility in both the HVIS and intensive care environments, ultimately serving in several executive level roles across a number of military bases throughout the country. He retired as a colonel.
Smith holds a master’s degree in nursing from Seattle Pacific University, a master’s degree in management from Troy State University and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Medical College of Georgia. He is board certified as an adult critical care clinical nurse specialist.
