Debbie Delgado Honored with ROSE Award
Caregiver recognized for Raising Our Standards of Excellence
Debbie Delgado, physician access coordinator with the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute, received the ChristianaCare ROSE Award in November.
Delgado stepped up at the front desk of the Cancer Center during a vacancy in the physician access coordinator position. This was no small task: In addition to receiving calls and greeting visitors, the role supports patients referred to the Cancer Center team with appointments, insurance, referral communications, visit check-in and checkout. The nomination emphasized that Delgado unfailingly shows patients the compassionate care, attention and respect they need and deserve.
ROSE is the Raising Our Standard of Excellence Award, recognizing outstanding partners in nursing who help deliver compassionate, excellent care to patients and families.
In every interaction, Delgado works to establish meaningful and lasting relationships with patients. Throughout the demanding year she maintained her positive attitude, bright smile and cheerful personality in welcoming and assisting patients and caregivers. She supported her teammates.
Delgado often receives cards and handwritten notes from patients and families expressing thanks for her diligence, professionalism, kindness and compassion.
“Debbie is a shining star and an astounding physician access coordinator, wrote Cynthia Waddington, MSN, RN, AOCN, NE-BC, Cancer Program clinical director, in her ROSE nomination. “Often the first voice on the phone or first in-person caregiver that a patient sees at the center, Debbie provides the most welcoming presence and demonstration of our core values and behaviors.
“We are very fortunate to have Debbie on our team!”
The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects ROSE Award recipients using an anonymous process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. Nursing partners in caregiving — behavioral health specialists, clerks, home health aides, homemakers, medical assistants, monitor technicians, office assistants, patient care technicians, perioperative care technicians, procedural area technologists, and surgical technologists – are eligible.
