The Young Friends of ChristianaCare, a program designed to engage high school students in learning and leadership, raised more than $10,000 dollars for Alexa Home Care Coach™. The innovative Home Care Coach is among Amazon’s first “skills” in the U.S. exclusively for home health patients.
Home Care Coach is a provider-driven, patient-customized, proactive care plan delivered through an Alexa “skill.” The “skill” – a voice-activated web application – allows a health care provider to customize a patient’s care plan, using meaningful language for the patient. The patient can then ask Alexa questions about prescribed medicines, exercises and more, and get prompts personalized to meet their needs.
Since 2016, the Young Friends of ChristianaCare have raised funds and collected supplies for philanthropic programs that enhance the patient experience. The group includes students from 20 high schools across the region. The Young Friends of ChristianaCare also participate in conversations with health system leaders and hands-on activities in genetics and other areas.
Over the years, the Young Friends have also collected more than 6,000 books for the ChristianaCare Pediatrics Department; supported the prom and field trips for ChristianaCare’s First State School; supported transportation for Camp FRESH participants; and provided clothing, toiletries and rides home for patients through the Emergency Department Special Needs Fund.
