ChristianaCare’s Christiana Hospital is named among the 100 great hospitals in America by Becker’s Healthcare in the 2020 edition of its annual recognition.

The hospitals on this list are acknowledged for excellence in clinical care, patient outcomes, and staff and physician satisfaction. “These institutions are industry leaders that have achieved advanced accreditation and certification in several specialties,” according to Becker’s Hospital Review.

The list features industry innovators that have sparked trends in health care technology, hospital management and patient satisfaction.

Becker’s Healthcare selected the top 100 hospitals for inclusion based on analysis of ranking and award agencies, including U.S. News & World Report’s 2019-20 rankings, CareChex, Healthgrades, CMS star ratings, Leapfrog grades and IBM Watson Health top hospitals. Becker’s also sought nominations for this list.

This list was compiled and developed before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the U.S. The information included in each profile is based on pre-COVID-19 data available to Becker’s.

The recognition comes on the heels of several other quality achievements during the past 12 months for ChristianaCare:

  • For the fifth year in a row, ChristianaCare was rated a Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report.
  • For the second year in a row, ChristianaCare has been ranked among the World’s Best Hospitals by Newsweek as one of the world’s best hospitals by Newsweek and as one of the nation’s Best Maternity Hospitals by Newsweek and Leapfrog, a national nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality performance of U.S. health care facilities.
  • ChristianaCare earned the Healthgrades 2020 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™. The distinction places ChristianaCare in the top 2% of nearly 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades. ChristianaCare has received the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award for four years in a row (2017-2020) for Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital.
  • ChristianaCare was honored as one of only 88 institutions out of 722 by the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress’ National Surgical Quality Improvement Program for achieving “meritorious” outcomes in surgical patient care, and one of only 56 health systems recognized for “meritorious” patient care in the program’s “all-case” and “high-risk” categories.
