Local mom donates protective masks to those who saved her daughter’s life

Karen Qiu moved to Delaware from China in 2014. A month later, her daughter was born at Christiana Hospital at 26 weeks gestation. She was just 2 pounds 10 ounces. They had no friends, no family in the United States at that time. And baby Eleanor had a very serious infection. Qiu was so sad and scared of losing her.

“But all the people from the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit gave us the best care and love we could ever expect in an absolutely new country,” remembered Qiu. And her daughter went home healthy after 88 days of treatment in the NICU.

In gratitude, Qiu and her husband donated 200 SAS N95 masks to ChristianaCare, and her family in China is mailing her more masks to donate in the midst of the coronavirus COVID-19 crisis.
