Sierra Savoy honored with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses

Sierra Savoy, BSN, RN, of Christiana Hospital’s Labor and Delivery team, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for September 2019.

ChristianaCare DAISY Award recipients are nurses recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying exceptional clinical skills, compassion, respect and partnership.

The DAISY nomination for Savoy came from the husband of a patient who experienced placenta accreta, a condition causing severe hemorrhage, following a C-section birth.

“I would like to recognize Sierra for her outstanding care and compassion,” he wrote. “We had a number of fantastic nurses, but Sierra Savoy was with us when we first came in until the last procedure. She is the one who realized something was wrong and called in the care team for consultation and monitoring that led to follow-up surgery.

“Five days after this experience, my wife still tears up when she talks about everything that happened, and how lucky we were to have Sierra there. We are very, very grateful for her.”

Sierra Savoy, BSN, RN (center), was joined by colleagues from the Perioperative and High Risk Sections of the Labor and Delivery team for presentation of a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

The international DAISY Award program honors skillful and compassionate nursing care. The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous selection process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team.

All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and VNA — are eligible.
