At the September 8 home football game, Christiana Care Health System and the University of Delaware kicked off a partnership introducing Christiana Care as the official health system of the Blue Hens.
“Christiana Care Health System and the University of Delaware have so much in common — great people, a strong mission, an historic past and a very bright future,” said Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, president and CEO of Christiana Care. “Together, we make a great team.”
As the official health system of the University of Delaware, Christiana Care will continue to work with the athletic department to ensure the health and wellness of the university’s 600-plus student athletes and sponsor the annual Coaches vs. Cancer games for the men’s and women’s basketball programs.
“Christiana Care and the University of Delaware have been partners in learning and research for many years. This new partnership takes the engagement in the community to new heights,” said Chrissi Rawak, Delaware’s director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services.
The University of Delaware and Christiana Care also will partner in an anti-bullying campaign, dubbed “Be a HERO,” which engages with local elementary schools to challenge their students to pledge to behave positively with acts of kindness toward each other.
As part of the partnership, the Christiana Care Impact Award will be presented at each home football game. The award honors a University of Delaware student who has demonstrated outstanding service, inspiration and leadership to benefit the health and well-being of the Delaware community.
