Jennifer Biehl honored with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses
Jennifer Biehl, MSN, APN, of Christiana Hospital’s Emergency Department, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for August 2017.
Christiana Care DAISY Award recipients are nurses recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying exceptional clinical skills, compassion, respect and partnership. This DAISY nomination came from a nursing colleague who said, “Jennifer is one of the most thorough, knowledgeable advance practice nurses I have worked with in my 10 years in the Emergency Department Observation Unit.” She cites Biehl’s service as a true patient advocate as the greatest reason for the DAISY honor, and shares what that entails.
“Jennifer has exceptional diagnostic and clinical skills, and an ability to focus on the critical details. She listens carefully to her patients, empathizes and partners with them to expertly guide their care. She acts quietly and professionally in all ways, whether helping patients through difficult situations or interacting with providers from all specialties. She uses the most up-to-date, evidence-based references to guide her care of patients, and will stop at nothing to deliver the best possible personalized care. Jennifer always perseveres until her patients’ needs are met.

Established in 1999, the family of J. Patrick Barnes created the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award to honor his memory with a tribute to the skillful and compassionate care he received from his nurses during his hospitalization. Today, more than 2,500 health care facilities in every state and 15 countries honor nurses with the DAISY Award.
The Professional Nurse Council at Christiana Care selects DAISY Award recipients using a blind selection process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the Christiana Care team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and VNA — are eligible.
