On May 10, Robert Laskowski, M.D., MBA, president and CEO of Christiana Care Health System, was honored to host Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., at the annual CEO meeting of The Health Management Academy. The Health Management Academy serves as an expert source in driving strategic issues facing the health industry and bringing together the senior executives who represent the country’s largest health systems and corporations. Collectively its membership accounts for 50 percent of the hospital net patient revenue in the country.

The people of Delaware elected Sen. Coons in November 2010. Prior to his election, he served the largest and northernmost county in Delaware for 10 years—first as New Castle County Council president and then as county executive.

Coons will be a key player in the continued implementation of health care reform based on his assignment to the Senate Judiciary and Budget Committees. During his remarks to academy CEO members, he shared his perspective on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the crucial effort to ensure access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

As innovators of care, Christiana Care joins its colleagues of the leading U.S. health systems to ensure a dialogue with members of Congress and other public policy leaders on the opportunities and barriers to delivering the best possible health care to all Americans.
