Employee fitness centers at Wilmington Hospital and Christiana Hospital provide resources to help employees enhance their health and well being.

Employees are embracing health and wellness initiatives at Christiana Care, and now the American Heart Association (AHA) is too.

For championing the health of employees and creating a culture of physical health and wellness within the workplace, Christiana Care has earned the Gold Level award in the American Heart Association’s Start! Fit-Friendly Companies program.

“We are committed to making Christiana Care the best place for employees to work, and helping employees remain healthy is an important part of that commitment,” says Audrey Van Luven, senior vice president of Human Resources. “We not only provide a safe and enjoyable work environment, but offer opportunities to help employees make healthy choices in their personal lives so they can be healthy in mind, spirit and body.”

According to AHA, the Fit-Friendly Companies program is a catalyst for positive change in American businesses. Companies participate by demonstrating progressive leadership in making the health and wellness of their employees a priority.

Christiana Care was recognized for:

  • Offering all employees physical activity support at the worksite.
  • Increasing the number of healthy-eating options available to employees.
  • Promoting a wellness culture at the worksite.
  • Embracing at least nine criteria as outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.
