One nominator described Fowler to be someone who shows exemplary professionalism while still having empathy and compassion for her patients.

I never had to wait long when I requested a nurse; she came as quickly as she could and took care of my needs. She never rushed out, nor was she curt. Her positive words always made me smile,” the nominator wrote.

While caring for a patient, Fowler went above and beyond to ensure they could spend time with their family during their hospital stay. When space limitations in the patient’s room made it seem unlikely, Fowler suggested using the solarium sunroom on the unit, providing a comfortable place for the family to visit together.

That was the best gift I got that day,” the nominator wrote. “I was missing the kids a lot and they were missing me, especially my 3-year-old grandbaby.”

In addition to her commitment to patient care, Fowler is recognized as a supportive leader and mentor among her peers.

I became a nurse out of a deep desire to serve others during their most vulnerable moments and to be a steady, reassuring presence for patients and families,” Fowler said.

The Professional Nurse Council at ChristianaCare selects DAISY Award recipients using an anonymous selection process based on nominations from patients, families and all members of the ChristianaCare team. All nurses — inpatient, outpatient and ChristianaCare HomeHealth — are eligible.
