Simpson was recognized for her attentiveness and compassionate care while supporting a patient experiencing depression. After learning the patient felt isolated, she encouraged them to get out of bed and took them on a wheelchair ride around the campus to offer a change of scenery and meaningful connection.

“You could visibly see in the patient how it lifted their spirits just being able to get out of their room and have some different scenery,” her nominator wrote.
