Woerner was nominated by the sister of a patient for her considerate and compassionate care during an Emergency Department visit.

The nomination commended Woerner for working diligently and deliberately in a delicate situation. On a busy night in the Emergency Department, the patient and her sister were waiting for an evaluation. As her sister’s pain increased, “I headed to the nurse’s station. Alexis saw me coming, took one look at me and immediately came into my sister’s room.” Woerner evaluated the patient, started fluids and advocated that she be seen by a doctor quickly.

“Recalling those hours sitting at my sister’s bedside, watching her suffering, I have tears streaming down my face,” the nominator wrote. “Alexis not only showed compassion, but she also advocated for her patient and showed empathy. That is more than any words can express.

“If I were a patient, Alexis would be the nurse I would be extremely happy to get.”
