Sonja Bowman Honored With ROSE Award

Patient care technician Sonja Bowman, of the Newark campus, has received the ChristianaCare ROSE Award. ROSE stands for Raising Our Standard of Excellence, recognizing outstanding partners in nursing who help deliver compassionate, excellent care to patients and families.

“Every single day, no matter what is going on or how stressful the workday may be, Sonja comes in with a positive attitude. She lights up the unit and every room she walks into. She cares for each patient as if they were her own family or best friend,” oncology nurse Lorin Hollinger, BSN, RN, OCN, wrote in Bowman’s nomination.

Sonja Bowman received the ROSE Award for anticipating the needs of patients and her fellow caregivers.

In her nomination. Hollinger noted that Bowman works hard to get to know the patients being cared for on 6E, along with their families. She takes time to explain to patients that what is being done is for their safety and also to provide the best possible care for them.

“She goes above and beyond every single day and makes each day go smoothly no matter how busy she is,” Hollinger wrote.

Bowman has worked in the medical field for more than 25 years, including 22 years as a patient care technician. She began working at ChristianaCare in 2022 on 6E. She’s now working toward becoming a registered nurse, thanks to a new preceptor program.

Bowman also is known among her colleagues for caring for her fellow caregivers. She’s always looking out for the nurses and other staff as well.

“She is always lifting spirits and checking in and keeps us laughing. She is truly one of a kind, and I love having her as a part of our 6E family,” Hollinger said.
