Delaware Subaru annual gift supports the unique needs of NICU babies

ChristianaCare Trustee Michael Uffner and his team at Delaware Subaru presented its annual, generous gift to ChristianaCare to support the special needs of babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and their parents.

The gift of $13,645 was part of the proceeds from the Wilmington dealership’s annual Subaru “Share the Love” campaign.

“This annual support is especially important to supporting the world-class care that ChristianaCare provides to many of the more than 6,000 babies who arrive throughout the year in delicate, sometimes dire health conditions,” said Uffner, president, chairman and CEO at Delaware Subaru and Auto Team Delaware. “Our contributions are intended to provide them with comfort and a fighting chance to overcome their challenging conditions at birth.”

The incredible strain due to the arrival of the coronavirus in our state and nation is pressing hospitals everywhere to make extraordinary efforts under extraordinary conditions.

ChristianaCare continues to offer everyone access to the highest quality care and technology for a healthy beginning, Uffner said. “Delaware Subaru is honored to support the work they do and give back to our neighbors and friends in the community.”

“When ChristianaCare announced plans in 2015 to transform care for women and infants in the greater Delaware region through a new Center for Women’s & Children’s Health, no one imagined that the new facility would be opening in the midst of a pandemic,” said David Paul, M.D., chair of Pediatrics. “Generous financial and moral support from partners like Delaware Subaru in this trying time gives us strength and hope for what’s ahead. We truly are grateful for their ongoing support.”

Over the past five years, Uffner and his team have given ChristianaCare more than $65,000 as part of their effort to “Share the Love,” which designates funds from every Subaru sold between November and January to select nonprofits.

Christiana Hospital is the only delivering hospital in the state to offer a Level III NICU. The unit, fully equipped with advanced technology and expert neonatal specialists, averages over 1,100 admissions annually.
