Flu shot campaign aims to vaccinate 12,000 employees in 100 locations in 4 states in 1 day

ChristianaCare leading by example to protect patients, staff and community from deadly flu

In a single day, Thursday, Oct. 10, from 3 a.m. to 9 p.m., ChristianaCare will attempt to vaccinate nearly all of its 12,000 employees in 100 locations in four states, through its #HitMeWithYourFluShot campaign.

Between 36,400 and 61,200 Americans died from the flu last year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition, the flu hospitalized more than 500,000 people and sickened 40 million Americans.

ChristianaCare made history in 2018 with its first #hitmewithyourflushot campaign, vaccinating nearly 8,000 caregivers – two-thirds of the entire staff – in a single day. The campaign, with partners from all over the health care system, earned multiple national and regional public relations and design awards, including the Silver Anvil Award of Excellence from the Public Relations Society of America – the industry’s top honor.

This marks the second year that ChristianaCare will launch the campaign, which will include fun activities at Christiana Hospital, Wilmington Hospital and scores of satellite sites. ChristianaCare already stands out among health systems in the United States with an annual voluntary employee flu vaccination rate of more than 90%.

Flu vaccination stations – including an outdoor drive-thru flu station – will be active throughout the day at Christiana Hospital and Wilmington Hospital, and a mobile team will deliver flu vaccines to all of ChristianaCare’s locations, which include primary care practices, medical specialty practices, cancer care, laboratory services and rehabilitation services throughout Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

In addition to fun events planned at the hospitals, where the largest number of employees will receive their flu shots throughout the day, employees will share their flu-shot photos on social media using the hashtag #HitMeWithYourFluShot.
