On May 19, while Harry and Megan were getting hitched in London, another royal celebration took place at the John H. Ammon Medical Education Center at Christiana Hospital. More than 50 families joined with neonatal intensive care unit clinicians and staff for a “Royal Celebration” celebrating the healthy, happy kids who began their lives as preemies or with other health challenges in their first days or weeks.

“The NICU reunion is a very well attended event by families and staff alike, as it gives all of us the opportunity to see one another again and say thank you,” said Susan B. Foster, MSN, RN, NEA-BC. “It’s wonderful to see each of our graduates and their families and witness how they’ve thrived.”

Christiana Care operates the only Level III NICU — the highest level of capability — at a delivering hospital in Delaware. More than 6,000 babies are born at Christiana Hospital each year.
