Christiana Care Health System volunteer Isabel Hendrixson received a Wilmington Award Oct. 4 in City Council chambers in recognition of her 14 years’ service, totalling more than 1,950 hours.

Isabel currently works at the information desk at Wilmington Hospital, where she greets patients, families and visitors, gives directions and answers questions.

She has served the health system and the community at Wilmington Hospital and the former Riverside Hospital on Lea Boulevard.

She was one of the first volunteers for the No One Dies Alone Program, which provides support to the patients who are at the end of life and who do not have family present to support them. She often sits with patients reading or playing music during their last minutes of life. Often, she will write and leave a note, if appropriate, so that other family members know about their loved one’s end-of-life experience and know the family member was not alone.

Over the years she has shared her time and talents in numerous ways, as a Riverside Campus Guild Member, as a gift shop volunteer and volunteer advisory committee member.

“Isabel is a valued member of the Volunteer Services team, known for her caring, dedication and compassion for others,” said Margarita Rodriguez- Duffy, MSW CAVS, director, Visitor & Volunteer Services.
