Partnerships help students learn about health care careers

The Office of Health Equity continues its partnerships in the community by hosting grade school and high school students from the Latin American Community Center (LACC) and from the STEM Up Delaware! program.

Students visit such places as the OR, ICU and the Virtual Education and Simulation Training center to learn about careers in health care and ask staff questions about the path they took to get to their current position. The LACC visit was an extension of the partnership Christiana Care has with the United Way/SPARC program. STEM Up Delaware! is a grant funded program that inspires high school minority students to go into the science, technology, engineering and math fields.

“Providing these opportunities for students actually extends our pipeline to students that might never get this exposure and starts at an early age to groom tomorrow’s talent,” said Dana Beckton, director of Diversity and Inclusion at Christiana Care.
