Line dancing was part of the celebration as Moving Moms Forward celebrated its first year of exercise, nutrition and wellness classes for Delaware moms.

Moving Moms Forward is a weight-management program that offers pregnant women and new moms in New Castle County, Del., the tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle after pregnancy. This free, eight-week series includes classes on exercise, weight management and mental wellness. The program is available to mothers up to two years following their most recent birth. A light meal and baby-sitting services are provided free of charge at every class, along with mental-health support for women in need. Mothers-to-be and fathers are also welcome to attend.

The first anniversary celebration of Christiana Care’s Moving Moms Forward program featured 99 women and their family members in attendance.

The group enjoyed a healthy dinner and soul line dancing, while a few Moving Moms Forward members received awards for their achievements in weight loss. The YWCA and Westside Family Healthcare received awards for their service of excellence and partnership with the Moving Moms Forward program. Terry Casson-Ferguson, Christiana Care’s Parent Resource Coach, was also recognized with an award for her work, “Think of the Patient First.”

Moving Moms Forward is an initiative of the Christiana Care Center for Community Health.
