Dr. Sandella graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at Christiana Care where he was named Resident of the Year and served as chief resident in 2008-09.
Dr. Sandella reports to Christine Donohue-Henry, M.D., chief medical officer for community care.
Pamela Szczerba appointed director of VNA Quality and Risk
Pamela Szczerba, PT, MPT, COS-c, has been appointed director of Quality and Risk for the Visiting Nurse Association of Christiana Care.
In this role, Szczerba leads the Quality and Safety department in areas
of accreditation, survey preparation, patient experience, staff engagement, quality outcomes, risk management and reducing employee injuries.
Szczerba joined the Christiana Care VNA in 1997 and most recently was manager of Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement.
She graduated from the University of Delaware with a Master of Physical Therapy and received the university’s Department of Physical Therapy Director’s Award in 1993.
She is an academic adjunct instructor at Widener University and has held adjunct academic roles since 1999.
She was the leader for developing the VNA Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Plan as part of the new Medicare conditions of participation in 2018. She has been an active leader, facilitator and champion for shared professional governance at the VNA.
Szczerba reports to Ann M. Painter, MSN, RN, senior vice president, Christiana Care Home Health & Community Services. 

   Q. When should disinfection be performed on medical equipment?
A. Disinfection is performed after every patient contact.
Q. What disinfectants are used at Christiana Care?
A. Approved disinfectants used at Christiana Care include PDI Wipes, PDI Bleach Germicidal Wipes, and Virex 256 (for floor cleaning only).
Q. Can all of the disinfectants be used on all surfaces? A. • No. The selection of the product will depend on the area
being cleaned and manufacturer recommendations.
• PDI Super Sani-Cloth (high alcohol formula in Purple-
top container) can be used on most equipment, computer keyboards/mouse, glucometers and other high touch surfaces.
• PDI Sani-Cloth (low alcohol formulas in red-top and gray-top containers) is used only in certain departments on equipment as required by the manufacturer.
• PDI Bleach Germicidal wipes are used by Environmental Services and stocked by the Medical Office Practices and Outpatient Services for C-Diff.
• Virex 256 is for use by Environmental Services for floors.

Q. Can the Clorox® Bleach Wipes still be ordered?
A. The Clorox Bleach Wipes are being replaced with the PDI Bleach Wipe. Current stock will be replaced with the new PDI Bleach Wipes as it is depleted. The new bleach wipe is used for the same purposes as the Clorox bleach wipes, but has a longer contact time. Order numbers for the new wipes: 6x5 canister: #66370; large bucket: #65729
Q. What is the contact time after wiping with a disinfectant for it to be effective?
A. • PDI Wipes (Purple top) – two minutes
• PDI (Red top) – three minutes
• PDI (Gray top) – three minutes
• PDI Bleach Germicidal Wipes – four minutes • Virex 256 –10 minutes 
