| Extraordinary People Vernon Alders appointed vice president, Organizational Excellence
  Vernon L. Alders, MHCDS, MBA, MSW, has been appointed vice president of Organizational Excellence at Christiana Care.
In this role, Alders provides leadership in supporting the organization's strategies to align and drive continuous improvement in support of The Christiana Care Way. He leads a team of experts trained in a variety of organizational improvement methods and techniques.
Under his guidance, his team has supported a number of important clinical and operational change efforts resulting in significant improvements in patient care, satisfaction and financial performance, showing their commitment to being exceptional today and even better tomorrow.
Alders has nearly 20 years’ experience in health care delivery and performance improvement, the last 12
of which have been with Christiana Care. Previously, he worked at two other large health systems, MedStar and Adventist Health. 
 LeRoi S. Hicks appointed Value Institute physician leader
 LeRoi S. Hicks, M.D., MPH, FACP, has been appointed physician leader of the Christiana Care Value Institute. Dr. Hicks is also the the Hugh R. Sharp Jr. Chair of Medicine and physician leader of Christiana Care’s Acute Medicine Service Line.
As physician leader of the Value Institute, Dr. Hicks will oversee the strategic direction and activities of the Value Institute and ensure they are aligned with Christiana Care’s goals and priorities. He will maintain relationships with key partners and stakeholders across the health system to engage the Value Institute in assessing and improving clinical practices
and operations. He will also develop relationships with community partners in support of the Value Institute’s activities, programs and personnel.
Dr. Hicks joined Christiana Care Health System in 2014 as vice chair of the Department of Medicine and section chief of General Internal Medicine. He is nationally known for his research on health care disparities. Dr. Hicks has served on several national committees including the National Council of the Society of General Internal Medicine and Board
of Scientific Counselors to the National Library of Medicine. 
 Mia Papas appointed corporate director of the Value Institute
 Mia Papas, Ph.D., MS, has been appointed corporate director of the Christiana Care Value Institute.
In this new role she will oversee the research and operations of the Value Institute and work closely
with Value Institute physician leader LeRoi S. Hicks, M.D., MPH, FACP, to set the strategic direction. She also will maintain key relationships and ensure the performance and accountability of Value Institute staff and the quality of its activities.
Papas joined Christiana Care in 2016 as director of Health Services Research at the Value Institute. She is
the site principal investigator for the Delaware Center for Translational Research, a five-year, $20 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, to support clinical and translational research and improve health outcomes.
She received her doctorate in epidemiology from
the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and has presented her research at more than 100 National and International conferences. 
